Was Worms Live Arcade Due Out Today?
Anyone checking out Xbox Live Arcade today will notice an absence of the regular Wednesday release. According to the Director of Programming, Larry Hryb (otherwise know as Xbox 360's Major Nelson) this was because the scheduled title was “delayed”, “because a very high bar that each title must pass over in order to be released," and that nothing had quite made it in time.
This has lead to rumours flying around the Internet that the Xbox Live Arcade title Worms was due to make an appearance today (which was what we were lead to believe a few weeks ago), but it had to be pulled at the last minute due to the depth of the experience offered by the Live Arcade version of Worms, and how that may have complicated the process of adding it to Live Arcade.
Team 17 boss Martyn Brown says that the developers are as frustrated as anyone about the prolonged delay in getting worms on Live Arcade, but he does expect to see in on there soon.
"The delay with Worms for XBLA has been as frustrating for Team17 as it has been for the very many players eager to see it's release," Brown told the popular gaming site Eurogamer this morning.
"It's really been a case of the last cycle of production/testing and certification taking much longer than we would have hoped. We know we aren't the only case, but that doesn't ease the frustration."
In regard to Worms Live being a complicated process for Xbox Live Arcade, he went on to say, "Worms is one of the 'richer' XBLA experiences in that it'll provide hours and hours of repeat play through it's on and offline multiplayer modes. Unfortunately that's meant a hell of a lot of testing and also re-submissions on what we felt were final builds.
"We've been working very closely with Microsoft XBLA team on this who are as excited and just as keen to see the game out there and on XBLA but there are procedures to follow before that can be the case.
"We're very close to being able to celebrate it's release though, although it's almost happened twice before, so we better keep quiet and hope that we get the green light soon."
There is no doubt in our mind that Worms Live is one of the most eagerly awaited Live titles to appear on Xbox Arcade for some time, and we’re be more than happy to wait a few more weeks to finally get our hands on this title.
