The final nail for HD-DVD?
To say that BluRay was edging out in front of HD-DVD would be no revelation. The announcement a couple of weeks ago that yet another big Studio has got into bed with Sony have caused Toshiba to get the towel rolled into a ball, ready to be tossed in.
But perhaps the final nail in the coffin is on the horizon (or perhaps more likely, on a high speed train, coming straight at us) as Microsoft have been in talks with Sony about offering a Blu-Ray drive for the xbox 360. A little surprising at first, but Microsoft would be taking huge risks to stick with a format that is most definitly taking a supreme beating. To put it into perspective, as of today, the following studios have already signed up with BluRay:
Disney (Buena Vista)
Fox
HBO
Lionsgate
MGM
New Line Cinema
Paramount
Sony Pictures
Universal Studios
Warner Bros.
Yes, i've heard of them too. Its still unkown yet how Microsoft intend to incorporate the drive, but it is likely to be an add-on (as the current HD-DVD drives are) but could be incorporated into the console itself on newer models (perhaps a "Blu Elite" edition ?)
